
C. Gene Wilkes is married to Kim (McHan) Wilkes (1975) and the father of two daughters, Storey Cook (Graham and granddaughter, Cambell) and Summer (to be married in March, 2010). He is the Senior Pastor of HYPERLINK “http://www.legacychurch.org” Legacy Church, Plano, TX, where he has served since 1987. The church has transitioned during Gene’s ministry to more effectively carry out its mission “to help people trust Jesus,” and to become “a mission outpost where every member is a missionary in his or her mission field.”
Gene is a national conference speaker and church consultant on the topics of spiritual gifts, lay mobilization, making disciples, and servant leadership. He has also led conferences and taught in Canada, China, Albania, Russia and Cuba.
Gene has published eight books and numerous articles ranging in topics from Bible study helps, servant leadership and community based servant evangelism.
He is a Resident Teaching Fellow with B. H. Carroll Theological Institute where he teaches at the masters and PhD levels in New Testament and Leadership. He also has taught as an adjunct professor in Dallas Baptist University’s Gary Cook Graduate School of Leadership at the masters and PhD levels in Biblical Servant Leadership. He has been a D.Min. supervisor for both SWBTS and Truett Seminaries.
Gene earned his B.A. in Greek and Religion at Baylor University (1975), his M.Div. at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1979), and his Ph.D. in New Testament studies from Southwestern (1985).
Gene’s hobbies include cycling and ultrarunning. His latest interest outside ministry and teaching is barefoot running.
