My favorite book on servant leadership is JESUS ON LEADERSHIP by Dr. Gene Wilkes, senior Pastor of the innovative Legacy Church, Plano, TX. Gene has written a series of articles on Servant Leadership for MentorNetwork.org. These appear on our front page beginning on Monday, December 21.
Gene and I became friends more than 15 years ago, when both of us arrived several hours early for a Leadership Network Pastor’s conference, Glen Eyrie, CO. We have been soul brothers ever since .
Before Gene began his work with Legacy Church he was a youth minister in the Southern Baptist Convention (the first person in the SBC to be a youth minister with a PhD in New Testament.) He has written much youth teaching material for the SBC.
Gene helped me unravel some challenges in my last congregational ministry in Dallas and has traveled with me on several occasions to teach my Mentoring Circles. I have also preached and taught at his church. On one occasion Gene arranged for me to speak at the SBC Convention - one session to “Denominational Executives” and one session to “Innovative Pastors.”
In recent years Gene joined our circle of Hope Network Mentoring Partners.
Gene Wilkes’ core passion is Servant Leadership. Check his vita and his areas of expertise. By all means, pick up a copy of his popular book, JESUS ON LEADERSHIP, and read his first article on Tell a friend | RSS | Print Blog

Lynn,
‘Surfing sites’ brought me to yours and the article re: shortness of breath/lung surgery/cancer. I fondly recall sitting at a card table with you while students at ACU and rehearsing Hebrew. You were ‘having trouble getting your breath’ and we shared the struggle. I was ministering in Naperville, IL at the time. My, how the ‘winds’ and breath of life have swept over us in the interim. Praying your health and vitality.
