“I am writing you these prayers, seeking to establish contact [and] I am toying with the idea that perhaps you are … maybe a little more like a form of spiritual electricity…”
Julia Cameron is an agnostic who decided to start writing prayers. Ms. Cameron didn’t know if she believed in God, or even wanted to believe. Let’s peek over her shoulder:
“Of course, I could go on here about some saints getting fried from trying to run too much voltage without being properly grounded, but the point is that my perception has changed so that our difficulties seem to spring less from your erraticism and undependability and more from my own. What a concept…
If you ARE a form of spiritual electricity, does that make you dangerous? Will I get electrocuted if I approach you the wrong way? Or are you more of a service like heat and light? It seems to me I am creeping around the idea of my having some kind of responsibility here as well. It might be partnering more than parenting you’re after.“
PS If your prayer life sometimes seems a bit like Ms. Cameron’s, you might want to read the rest of her book, “PRAYERS FROM A NON-BELIEVER.”
