Your Church Is Unique

You’ve heard it.  Maybe you’ve said it yourself.  “No two fingerprints are the same.  You are unique.”  We encourage our children and each other to explore the uniqueness that is “us” and live out of that uniqueness. Funny then, that when it comes to leading our churches, we attempt to photocopy someone else’s fingerprint.  The latest seminar or the newest book from a church that has grown rapidly offers us a vision we can “plug and play” back home.

But what if, instead of copying another’s vision, you started with what God has already placed in your church?  What if there is something unique that—if left undiscovered or under-emphasized—will diminish what God wants to do through you? That is the premise behind Church Unique, Will Mancini’s book and process on discovering vision, implementing it, and delivering it daily.

The Tipping Point of Brokenness

We all have heard of Malcolm Gladwell’s insightful bestseller, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference. (Little, Brown and Company, 2000) He gleaned the “three rules of the tipping point” from his assumption that “Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do.” (7) I want to apply his concept of a tipping point to our final dialogue about leaders led by Jesus:

The Power of Presence

We have observed in the previous articles how Jesus led an “activist” follower and “narcissistic” leader named Simon Peter to become a servant leader who accomplished the mission he commissioned him to complete. Peter is the everyman of biblical leadership. We are like him in so many ways.

Leaders Led by Jesus Part 2
